Yummy Foods to Help Your Little One Drift Off
Share
If you’re after a peaceful night and a snoozy baby, these tasty little treats can work wonders. Think of them as bedtime’s best mates! I personally wrote this after a long night with a restless little one..
1. Foods that are high in Tryptophan
Something we have learnt is that tryptophan is packed with a clever little nutrient called tryptophan, which helps your baby feel calm and ready for a kip this is found in foods such as salmon, eggs, turkey, tofu and walnut. So how does it help with sleep? (according to google):
‘Tryptophan is an amino acid that converts into serotonin and then melatonin, which promotes relaxation and sleepiness. However, tryptophan has to compete with other amino acids to gain access to the brain. Animal proteins tend to have more tryptophan and are easier for the body to break down and use.’
2. Bananas – Nature’s Nightcap
Soft, sweet, and full of relaxing goodness, bananas are perfect for winding down. Give it a mash, and you’ve got a bowl of bedtime gold.
3. Porridge – A Warm Bowl of Comfort
There’s nothing like porridge to settle a little tummy before bed. Oats are full of melatonin (that’s the magic sleep hormone!) and are perfect for a cozy evening snack.
4. Sweet Potatoes – Dreamy and Creamy
These velvety veggies are bursting with comforting carbs that help your baby relax. Mash them, puree them, or bake them soft—it’s a hug in food form!
5. Avocado – The Snoozy Green Wonder
Avocado is smooth, creamy, and packed with healthy fats to keep your baby’s tummy full and content all night. A quick mash and you’re good to go! I am going to try a mix of mashed banana and avocado tonight as a little dessert for my baby which I’m sure she will love.
6. Cherries – The Little Red Lullabies
Cherries are one of nature’s rare sources of melatonin, making them brilliant for bedtime. Cook and puree them for a tasty, snoozy treat.
7. Whole Grains – Tummy Fillers
Brown rice, quinoa, or a tiny piece of wholemeal toast are perfect for keeping hunger at bay overnight. Blend them into a smooth mix for younger tots.
8. Milk or Formula – The Classic Sleepy Sip
For babies under 6 months, breast milk or formula is all they need. It’s the ultimate bedtime staple!
Good luck, may the odds be in your favour..
Here’s to full tummies, sweet dreams, and (hopefully) a solid rest for you too!
